Now at 32 weeks

Posted by Matthew

Our baby is now at thirty two weeks. He should weigh around 3.75lbs and be almost seventeen inches long. We are so excited that he is almost here. Though I have to admit that I am very nervous about the whole thing. I have never changed a diaper before or never even held a newborn. I am going to get plenty of practice. I had to say it before someone else did.

Heather and I went to a birthing class last Saturday and learned more about what to expect the day of delivery. I have to say the class was very informative and let us know what type of things that will be happening. We watched videos of several children being born and the experiences of the mother and father. I could not believe how emotional it was to watch a baby being brought into this world. I can only imagine how it will be for us on that day. My main goal is to be there for Heather and support her wholeheartedly.

One very interesting part of the day was watching a video of Dr. Harvey Carp, a board certified pediatrician, associate professor of pediatrics at UCLA School of Medicine and the author of the book and video, The Happiest Baby on the Block. You can see his website here. His main point is that the baby is not ready to be born. It is still a fetus living outside of the mother’s womb. In other words, it is so used to being in the womb that all the factors outside the womb are foreign to the baby. To help calm the baby, one should mimic for the baby the environment of the womb. If you haven’t seen this guy, you are missing out. You will be amazed when he takes a crying baby and makes it stop crying in a split second. He definitely has me convinced and we plan on using his techniques for our baby. If you don’t go to his site, at least check out this video.

Our baby is at 31 weeks!

Posted by Matthew

He is getting huge! We toured the hospital where he will be delivered last night. Looks like a really nice place. We saw where the baby will be born and where we will be staying while mommy recovers. We found out that all the rooms are private rooms, so that is good news.

According to Babycenter.com, the baby should weigh around 3.3 pounds and be around 16 inches long. Our little dude is jumping around, kicking, doing flips, and trying to make mommy pee in her pants. In other words, he has a good sense of humor, is healthy and doing fine.

Gift Registries

Posted by Matthew

I don’t think I mentioned anywhere else, but I put links on the right hand sidebar to the gift registries. We are currently updating some of the items on the list.

I want to make sure that I express in words how grateful we are for all the wonderful gifts, support and love we are receiving from all of our friends and family. Without all of you, we could not do it alone. Thanks so much for being there for us.

Lots of stuff from Phil and Nancy

Posted by Matthew

A great big THANKS goes to Phil and Nancy for all the stuff they acquired for the baby. I can’t believe all the stuff they were able to get. The baby is going to be completely set before he even gets here! It’s so exciting!

More stuff for the baby

I just thought I would post some pictures of some stuff that has already been given to baby Matt. Some of it Heather and I bought because we thought it was too cute and we just had to get it already.

29 Weeks this week

Posted by Matthew

Well, we are at 29 weeks! We are so excited. Thanks so much for your votes on the names. It actually does help us think about what his name should be. Currently Harrison is in the lead with Landon and Collin following in second.

According to the baby center website, our baby is about 2-1/2 pounds. I know Heather definitely feels him kicking around in there. According to the site, his nutritional needs are at a peak during his development. We just can’t wait to see his little face.

On another note, somewhat related to the baby, we are looking at houses tomorrow so wish us luck. We are looking in the Fayetteville area and hope to find something soon.
