Thomas’ Tongue

Posted by Matthew

Thomas loves sticking out his tongue now. We think it is hilarious. His other milestones are that he started rolling over about two weeks ago. We still can’t get him to crawl, but he does sit up on his own and he can roll over from his back to his stomach and vice versa. He is really strong and we don’t think he will have any problem getting to the walking stage. He also can stand in his crib holding on to the railing. Personally, I think he is going to be somewhat daring, but aren’t all boys? That’s what we do.

Thomas and cosmic bowling.

Posted by Matthew

We took Thomas bowling last weekend and had a great time at Junction Lanes in Newnan. He had fun the entire night taking in the blacklights and strobes. Too bad he is not big enough to roll the ball down the lane himself but I am sure he will be big enough before we know it. I was impressed with the scene. Plenty of families having fun bowling, eating hotdogs and sharing laughs.

Sleep supine or prone?

Posted by Matthew

Thomas refusing to raise his head.

As a parent you are constantly worried about your infant sleeping and the possibility of SIDS. I decided to read a bit about it before going to bed to hopefully calm my fears when I discovered this information on Wikipedia about the difference in development between babies either sleeping on their stomachs or on their backs.

I will still have to do research to determine if sleeping supine is really the best choice in avoiding SIDS and is it worth the possible loss of motor development. Read the quick excerpt below and then read more on the click through.

“Since 1998 there have been several studies published which report that infants placed to sleep in the supine position lag in motor skills, social skills, and cognitive ability development when compared to infants who sleep in the prone position. In the 1998 article entitled “Effects of Sleep Position on Infant Motor Development.” by Davis, Moon, Sachs, and Ottolini, the authors state “We found that sleep position significantly impacts early motor development.” The prone (stomach) sleeping infants in this study slept an average of 225.2 hours (8.3%) more in their first 6 months of life than the supine (back) sleeping infants.” Read more…

Thomas’ First Snow

Posted by Matthew

We all thought it wouldn’t happen. The stores would be bum-rushed for bread and milk and everyone would decide they drive better than anyone else in the snow. We got several inches at our house and Thomas watched some of it but decided he wasn’t that interested.

I have attached a YouTube video below so you can see Thomas and me in the snow. Now that I have figured out how to add videos you will see more in the future. Notice the snowflake on Thomas’ nose. The snow was coming down pretty hard and I did not want Thomas to get too cold so we took this quick video and then ran back inside.
